The tone between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in the US election campaign is becoming harsher: While Harris promised tax cuts, Trump sees the USA on a direct path to communism.
US presidential candidate Kamala Harris presented her economic policy in a campaign speech. The Democrat announced tax cuts for families and Americans with middle and low incomes. During her appearance in the politically contested state of North Carolina, the incumbent vice president also promised a whole series of other measures aimed at reducing costs, especially for the middle class, if she is elected president.
As president, Harris wants to introduce a proposal for a nationwide ban on price gouging on food. She also promised to provide first-time home buyers with $25,000 down payment assistance. Many of her plans require the approval of Congress, whose composition and majority will also be voted on in the election on November 5. Harris did not provide details on how she plans to finance the plans.
Kamala Harris wants to relieve the burden on the middle class
“Too many people, no matter how hard they work, feel like it’s hard to get ahead,” said the Vice President in her speech. She praised the measures and improvements that she and US President Joe Biden had implemented, but acknowledged that many Americans have not yet felt any of them in their daily lives. As president, she wants to focus on the middle class, “their economic security, stability and dignity,” said Harris.
During his election campaign, Republican Donald Trump repeatedly blames Biden and Harris for the high prices in the USA. “If you think things are expensive now, then it will be 100 times WORSE after Kamala is president for four years,” the presidential candidate wrote on his online platform Truth Social after Harris’ speech. If the Democrat enforces “her communist price caps,” there will be hunger and poverty, Trump said. America will never recover from this.
