For the first time since the Islamist Taliban seized power in Afghanistan three years ago, people have been deported from Germany to the country. But who are the 28 men? According to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), they are all criminals. Information on this comes from the federal states involved.
Baden-Württemberg: On board the plane were five men from the southwest, all of whom are said to be “serious criminals”. At the end of October 2019, one of them and three other perpetrators raped a then 14-year-old girl for several hours in a refugee shelter in Illerkirchberg (Alb-Donau district), it was said. The girl had previously been under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The man, now 31 years old, had already served his prison sentence and was arrested by the police for deportation. The four other Afghans, aged 25, 35 and 45, were in custody for various crimes and were taken from there to Leipzig/Halle Airport.
Bavaria: Three criminals from Bavaria are also among those deported. According to information from the state, two of them had been sentenced to prison terms for sexual offenses and the third for an offense under the Narcotics Act. They are 27, 29 and 30 years old.
Berlin: Two serious criminals from Berlin were also on board. One was convicted of multiple counts of grievous bodily harm, the other of rape.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: One of those deported lived in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. According to information from the state, the man had been convicted of sexual abuse of children, rape and other crimes.
Lower Saxony: Five men from Lower Saxony, aged between mid-20s and mid-30s, were deported, some from prison and some from freedom. According to the state, the crimes they committed included manslaughter, rape, grievous bodily harm, mistreatment of those in their care, fraud and theft.
North Rhine-Westphalia: Among the passengers was a criminal from North Rhine-Westphalia. The man was picked up directly from a prison, it was said. There he was serving a prison sentence for serious arson.
Rhineland-Palatinate: A sex offender sentenced to several years in prison was deported from there.
Saxony-Anhalt: Two criminals from Saxony-Anhalt were deported. One of them was serving a youth sentence of several years for two counts of rape. The second was convicted of sexual abuse of minors and is currently under investigation for rape and supplying narcotics to minors.
Thuringia: A 25-year-old man from Thuringia was also on the plane. He was convicted in 2021 of, among other things, grievous bodily harm, theft with weapons and an attack on law enforcement officers. He was in custody until March of this year and is said to have committed crimes again after his release.
