The election officials do not yet know the date for the new Bundestag election. But the preparations have already begun.
The federal and state election authorities want to discuss preparations for the early election of the Bundestag on Monday. As with a regular federal election, there is a need for the exchange of information between both levels, said the Federal Election Commission. The virtual meeting will also focus on new procedures following a change to the federal electoral regulations.
Preparations for new elections are in full swing
An important point here: Anyone running for the Bundestag no longer has to reveal their private address. Year of birth and place of residence are sufficient. This is intended to minimize the risk of becoming a victim of violent acts or politically motivated stalking.
We have of course started preparing for a possible one #newelection started in order to be able to overcome the challenges posed by the shortened deadlines together with everyone involved. We have to make all the preparations like for a regular federal election.

Federal Returning Officer Ruth Brand has “naturally begun preparations for a possible new election in order to be able to overcome the challenges posed by the shortened deadlines together with everyone involved,” as she made clear on Platform X. In a letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), she also warned of “unforeseeable risks” from shorter deadlines and referred to logistical challenges.
Brand wants to make full use of the 60-day period between the dissolution of parliament and new elections “in order to be able to take all necessary measures in a legally secure and timely manner.” Criticism of Brand’s statements came from the Union.
