Daniel Günther attacks Markus Söder: Should “shut up”

Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther is attacking CSU boss Markus Söder head-on in the dispute over a possible coalition between the Union and the Greens in the federal government.
There is discord within the Union. The CSU just doesn’t want a federal government together with the Greens – the sister party CDU is more open to this. After all, there is already black-green government at the state level.
For example in Schleswig-Holstein. Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) has been governing the north together with the Greens since 2017: initially in a Jamaica coalition with the FDP, and since 2022 as a two-party alliance.
In the internal Union debate, Günther CSU boss Markus Söder now called for moderation with sharp words.
“Söder is having a discussion with himself”
“Söder always says that there are people in the CDU who rave about black-green in the federal government. I don’t know anyone,” said Günther in the ZDF program “Markus Lanz” on Tuesday. But Söder claims that, only to then say that he is the one who will prevent it. “Instead of just keeping our mouths shut and saying, we’re fighting for a strong CDU. And a strong CSU.”
“Markus Söder is having this discussion with himself,” Günther continued. “It’s a popular stylistic device in politics that people always claim that there is an opposing position in order to then portray themselves as a rock in the surf,” said the politician. “Having debates with yourself is never wise during an election campaign.”
From the eco-opposition to the governing party: How the Greens have changed
On January 13, 1980, after heated arguments, the green, alternative and colorful groups in the Federal Republic founded a federal party called “The Greens”. Daniel Günther calls for willingness to cooperate
The Bavarian Prime Minister had repeatedly spoken out against a coalition with the Greens. In his view, the Greens are the main reason for Germany’s difficult economic situation.
Günther said that he himself would never promote a black-green alliance and would say: “We can only do so with the Greens.” But the Union must be able to work with other democratic parties.
Markus Söder reacts to the attack
Söder countered on Wednesday. “Anyone who gives advice to others should best stick to it themselves. That’s not relevant. It’s a small and beautiful country with a beautiful landscape, enormous economic problems, heavily financially indebted – well, you even have to declare emergencies there – and yet “We want the state financial equalization from Bavaria,” he told the Welt TV channel with a view to Schleswig-Holstein. “I would say: take care of your own problems and then appear nationwide with a decent record, that’s okay. Otherwise, I can only say: the position towards the Greens is the majority position of the Union voters. That is the majority position of the Germans: Black -Green is the most unpopular coalition imaginable.”
