The election for the 21st German Bundestag will take place on February 23. In Saarland, voters have the opportunity to choose in four constituencies. But which constituency belongs to my city? This overview is intended to help you find the right constituency.
Why does the election take place on February 23, 2025?
The Bundestag election usually takes place every four years, but this year it was preferred. There was also because Chancellor Olaf Scholz asked the question of trust on December 16, 2024. The Bundestag refused Scholz with a majority of 394 MPs. As a result, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier ordered the dissolution of the German Bundestag on December 27, 2024 and decided to start new elections for February 23, 2025.
So far, the question of trust has been asked five times in the history of the Federal Republic since 1949. In three cases, the respective Federal Chancellor was denied trust and the Bundestag was dissolved. In two cases, a majority in the Bundestag expressed confidence to the Chancellor.
How many constituencies are there in Germany?
Germany is currently divided into 299 constituencies. These are structured in such a way that they enable a fair distribution of the votes. However, these limits can change every four years because they adapt to population development and municipal area changes.
