US court stops access from Musk committee to sensitive data

For Trump, Musk is supposed to reduce government spending with his Doge committee-with questionable methods. Intervene courts. But do the tech billionaire and his people even adhere to bans?

A Federal Supreme Court in New York has initially severely restricted Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his cost-reduction committee Doge to access sensitive payment systems of the US Ministry of Finance. There is a risk of “irreparable damage”, according to the injunction – not only through the possible disclosure of confidential information, but also due to increased risks to hacker attacks.

The court ordered that certain persons who had had an inauguration of payment systems since January 20-the day of US President Donald Trump-“immediately destroyed all copies of material” that may have been downloaded.

The lawsuit had submitted a coalition of 19 Democratic Attorney General. “President Trump does not have the authority to pass on our private data as you like,” said New York’s Attorney General Letitia James.

The court set a hearing in this case for February 14. The system of the Ministry of Finance is handled, among other things, social security payments to millions of Americans, tax refunds and the salaries of federal employees.

Cost cuts – or political control?

Trump has been forwarding the state apparatus since taking office. He entrusted Musk with the lowering of government expenditure and created the committee Doge (“Department of Government Efficiency”) – with unclear powers. Critics fear that this will be less saving than stronger political control.

Several lawsuits run against the procedure. A court in Washington had already temporarily limited Dogen’s access to the payment system of the Ministry of Finance to two people with reading access. However, an injunction required by unions against access to data from the Ministry of Labor was rejected after there were initially restrictions.

In Washington, however, concern is growing as to whether Musk and Trump adhere to judicial decisions. According to media reports, many of the Doge employees have been recruited from the environment of Musk’s companies and follow a strategy typical of the Silicon Valley: act quickly, deal with structures, secure maximum control.
