Bundestag election 2025

The polling stations are open at these times

In the 2025 federal election, the polling stations open early in the morning at 8 a.m. Times are the same throughout Germany. However, you should consider a few things.

The polling stations are open to ten hours on the day of the Bundestag election, February 23, 2025: from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the evening, voters have time to vote in their polling station.

Important for everyone who wants to vote is: Under no circumstances should you risk being late. Because after 6 p.m. voting is no longer possible – the polling stations in Germany are all closing at the same time.

When does the counting of the voices begin?

The counting of the votes in the polling stations begins right after 6 p.m. Incidentally, this is public: Interested parties can be there if the election workers count the votes – regardless of whether they are entitled to vote or not. For example, this indicates the Hanseatic City of Hamburg on its website for the Bundestag election.

There are more information about the respective polling station on the election notifications sent to the citizens by post. For example, people with disabilities find information on this sheet of paper whether the polling station is barrier -free. Further specific information on the topic can also be requested via a telephone number specified on the election notification.

And if it turns out that you would rather choose in another polling station, this is also possible: In this case, the postal vote must first be requested. On election day you can then choose with the voting certificate from the postal voting documents in any polling station of your own constituency. Be sure to bring a passport or ID card to the polling station. Because you have to identify yourself on site. In any case, the ballot that was sent with the election documents must be destroyed, according to the current election notifications.

And here too, of course: In any case, be on site on time that you are in the polling station before 6 p.m.
