Talks to finance package continue

Union, SPD and Greens continue to talk about the planned financial package. Does it still work with an agreement?

The talks between the CDU, CSU, SPD and the Greens on the billion -dollar financial package continued on Wednesday. The German press agency from negotiation circles learned this. As with previous round Union faction leader Friedrich Merz (CDU), participants were, the SPD parliamentary group leader Lars Klingbeil, CSU state group leader Alexander Dobrindt as well as the two Greens faction leader Britta Haßelmann and Katharina Dröge. According to the information, the meeting took about two hours.

The Greens do not want to agree to the planned billion-dollar defense and infrastructure package from the Union and SPD in its current form. They accuse the Union and SPD of wanting to finance their election promises with the package, such as the expansion of the mother’s pension and the reduction of taxes in the catering trade. They also doubt that the funds for infrastructure flow into additional projects instead of in projects that are already planned.

Union and SPD want to have the package decided by the old Bundestag by March 25, in which they, together with the Greens, have the two-thirds majority necessary for constitutional changes. In the new Bundestag they need AfD (cooperation excluded) or left (cooperation extremely difficult).
