Israel extends attacks in the Gaza Strip

A return to the ceasefire is becoming increasingly unlikely. The Israeli government, however, also drives the settlement policy in West Bank.

Israel expands his attacks on the goals of the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Five people were killed in an attack on a clinic in the south of the sealed coastal area, including a member of the Hamas Politburos. Employees of the Nasser Hospital in the city of Chan Junis announced that the Israeli military had attacked the clinic on the second floor. Israel’s army said the goal was an important Hamas member who was active there.

According to Hamas, the Hamas member was Ismail Barhum. Defense Minister Israel Katz praised the army for the killing. According to Israeli media, Barhum was responsible for the distribution of funds within the terrorist organization as a political office member. The Hamas called him “a load -bearing pillar” of the Islamist organization.

Israel’s army accused Hamas to abuse the hospital as a shelter. According to Hamas, Barhum was treated in the Nasser Clinic. The information on both sides could initially not be checked independently.

A high-ranked Hamas official had already been killed in an Israeli air raid in southern Gaza Strip on Sunday. Salah al-bardaWil had guided the strategic and military planning of the Hamas, the army said. Hamas confirmed the death of Al-Bardawil, who was also a member of the Politburo in its Telegram Canal.

Hamas authority: More than 50,000 GAZA deadlines since the beginning of the war

According to the health authority controlled by the Hamas, the number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Gaza War rose to more than 50,000. Numerous people are still missing. The information that does not distinguish between fighters and civilians cannot be checked independently. International organizations like the UN consider them largely credible.

The Gaza War triggered the attack by Hamas and other extremist groups on Israel on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 Israelis were dragged into the Gaza strip.

Kallas calls for return to ceasefire

The EU foreign commissioner Kaja Kallas condemned the new attacks in the Gaza Strip during a visit to the region and called for the resumption of humanitarian aid. In a statement published together with the Arabic-Islamic Ministerial Committee, she called for an immediate return to the complete implementation of the agreement that came into force on January 19 on a ceasefire and the release of hostages and prisoners.

According to “Wall Street Journal”, Israel’s head of government Benjamin Netanyahu is planning a new large -scale soil offensive. The Prime Minister and his security cabinet are convinced that taking larger areas would allow Israel to finally defeat Hamas, the newspaper reported on informed circles.

Israel wants to create the authority for the departure of Palestinians

Israel also sets up a new authority for a “voluntary” departure of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This is to be subordinate to the Ministry of Defense and “prepare the voluntary departure of residents of the Gaza Strip to third countries in a safe and controlled way”, quoted Israeli media from a declaration by Defense Minister Katz.

People willing to leave the country should be abandoned “in accordance with Israeli and international law and in accordance with the vision of US President Donald Trump”, the statement said. The Israeli security cabinet had previously approved a corresponding proposal from Katz. It was not mentioned which third countries should be.

Peace movement: People don’t go “voluntarily”

The Israeli peace movement Peace Now condemned the creation of the new exit authority on platform X as a “indelible eyesore” for Israel. “If life in a certain place is made impossible by bombing and siege, it is not” voluntary “when people go,” it said.

Proposal goes back to US President Trump

Katz had already instructed the army in early February to work out a corresponding plan after US President Donald Trump had proposed to move two million Palestinians from the coastal strip. In the presence of Netanyahu, the US President announced that the USA would “take over” the Gaza Strip and transform it into an economically flourishing “Riviera of the Middle East”. According to Trump’s will, the residents of the area are to be accommodated in other Arab countries in the region.

According to Egyptian media, the government in Cairo recently rejected reports that it should be ready for the temporary admission of half a million people from the Gaza Strip.

Israel recognizes 13 independent settlements in the West Bank

The Israeli security cabinet also decided to convert 13 Jewish residential areas in the occupied West Bank into independent settlements. The step had been promoted by the right -wing extremist finance minister Smotrich, reported Israeli media. The relevant residential areas were therefore illegally built for decades, without formal approval of the cabinet, as an outpost of settlements.

According to media reports, the Foreign Ministry of the Palestinian Authority sentenced to the recognition of the settlements. Peace Now criticized the step as a threat to a two-state solution in Israel.
