In the debate about the promotion of women’s football, a majority of Germans believe that equal bonuses for success at the DFB are justified.
According to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (Monday), 59.1 percent of the 5,284 respondents to a representative study by the Nuremberg consulting and market research company SLC Management answered in the affirmative. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf recently announced a debate in the German Football Association about aligning the bonuses for the women’s national team with the payments for the men.
The DFB women each received 30,000 euros for their second place after the defeat in the European Championship final at Wembley against England. There would have been 60,000 euros for the title. The men would each have received prize money of 400,000 euros if they triumphed at the 2021 European Championship.
Large majority for professionalization
During a visit to the DFB, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) advocated “equal pay”, i.e. the same pay for the women’s and men’s national teams. The demand for “equal pay” was also supported by 58.5 percent of the survey participants.
As many as 85.5 percent would like to see more professional framework conditions in women’s football. Above all, this includes more professional structures in the clubs as well as minimum salaries for footballers and investments in infrastructure and marketing.
On the other hand, two-thirds of those surveyed rejected the idea that men’s Bundesliga clubs should be required to set up a women’s soccer team.
