Borussia Dortmund’s run to success has come to a halt, the Westphalians said goodbye to the Champions League after ten competitive wins in a row. Chelsea FC, who had lost the first duel in Signal Iduna Park 0-1, won the return match at Stamford Bridge 2-0 (1-0) and thus made it into the quarter-finals.

Benfica is also there. Ex-Salzburg coach Roger Schmidt’s team made short work of Club Brugge and advanced 7-1 on aggregate. After beating Belgium 2-0, Portugal celebrated a 5-1 (2-0) win in Lisbon, with Goncalo Ramos scoring twice.

Chelsea’s rise, however, has taken a lot of hard work. The “Blues” set the course shortly before and after the break. Raheem Sterling put the English in the lead (43′) and Kai Havertz converted a penalty in the 53rd minute on his second attempt. The penalty was repeated after the German shot the pole because several players ran into the penalty area before the shot was taken. Dortmund’s final pressure phase brought nothing countable.
