FC Blau-Weiss Linz dropped points in the title race of the 2nd soccer league: In the 1-1 draw against FAC on Friday, the people of Linz were unable to get beyond a draw.
In none of the previous three games under coach Gerald Scheiblehner could the Royal Blues get a point against the Floridsdorfers – in the fourth attempt it worked at least with a point. But that could not be enough for the blue and white promotion ambitions: With a win, you could have taken the lead in the second division at least until Sunday. St. Pölten, a competitor for promotion, remains at the top – and can even extend the lead against the blue-and-white local rivals Vorwarts Steyr with a win.
In a first half with few chances, BW striker Ronivaldo gave the Scheiblehner team the lead: In added time in the first half, Simon Pirkl served teammate Fally Mayulu, who crossed Ronivaldo across. The Brazilian jumped at the opportunity, heading in front and scoring his 17th goal of the season. The longer the second half lasted, the more dangerous the guests became: A shot from FAC kicker Benjamin Wallquist (75th) saved the pole, shortly afterwards BW goalie Nicolas Schmid parried a shot from the cross corner. He was powerless in the 84th minute: Christian Bubalovic equalized from a corner (84′).
Help from Steyr?
Now Blau-Weiss has to hope for a fall from St. Pölten – preferably on Sunday againstVorwarts Steyr. “We want to annoy the league leaders and give Blau-Weiss Linz a helping hand,” said Steyr coach Daniel Madlener, whose team has to do without the suspended Alberto Prada and the injured Faris Zubanovic and Michael Lageder.
