Bremen’s Lennard Kämna finished eleventh in the Swiss municipality of Crans-Montana and is still sixth overall. The Brit Geraint Thomas remains the leader of the Tour of Italy.

The Italian part of the stage had been left out. Instead of 199, the professional cyclists had to cover 74.6 kilometers and only started at around 3 p.m. in the Swiss town of Le Chable. A few days ago, the 2,469 meter high Grosser Sankt Bernhard pass planned for Friday as the highest planned point of this year’s Giro was removed from the program due to fresh snow and the risk of avalanches.

On Saturday, the 194-kilometer route between the city of Sierre in Switzerland and Cassano Magnago in Lombardy, Italy, is up for the pros. After the ascent to the Sempione Pass, the Giro participants have a long flat section ahead of them.
