The Kansas City Chiefs won the first NFL guest game in Germany this season. The Super Bowl winner led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes defeated the Miami Dolphins 21:14 in front of 50,023 spectators in the Waldstadion in Frankfurt. At halftime, the Chiefs were already ahead 21-0, and in the second half only the Dolphins scored. However, two touchdowns were not enough for the Florida football team.
The NFL stars did more than just their duty with the spectacle. “It sucks that we have to travel nine hours for a home game,” Kansas City’s Marquez Valdes-Scantling said before departure. “But of course we have fans all over the world. I know we have a lot of fans in Germany, so I’m grateful that we can offer them this opportunity.”
He didn’t have time to get to know Frankfurt. While Miami arrived on Tuesday, the Super Bowl winner only landed on Friday. For Valdes-Scantling, that’s not a problem: “It’s just about business.”
A year after the premiere in Munich, it was only the second NFL season game on German soil. In England, especially at Wembley Stadium in London, the International Games of the best football league in the world have a long tradition.
Next Sunday (3:30 p.m./live RTL), the Indianapolis Colts with the Austrian Bernhard Raimann will also meet the New England Patriots in Frankfurt. There will be another game in Munich in 2024. The German NFL premiere took place in the Allianz Arena in 2022.
