Borussia Dortmund had already won the crowds in central London before the Champions League final. Significantly more BVB fans were tuning in for the duel against Real Madrid.
Hours before kick-off at Wembley Stadium, fans of Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid in London were already getting ready for the Champions League final that evening (9 p.m./ZDF and DAZN). The city center and especially Kensington around Hyde Park, Westminster and Paddington were firmly in BVB hands.
Dortmund fans drove through the city in yellow and black double-decker buses, typical of London, and chanted fan songs. A fan meeting took place in Hyde Park itself, to which many fans in jerseys, scarves and special final T-shirts made the pilgrimage at midday. Only a few Real supporters were to be seen.
“An extreme opportunity”
“I’m sure it will not only be quite yellow, but also quite loud,” said BVB coach Edin Terzic before the game. Julian Brandt said of Dortmund’s underdog role: “It’s an extreme opportunity for us when we have our fans here. When we see how many are here in London.”
Both teams have officially received 25,000 tickets for the final. However, it is expected that more Dortmund fans will find their way to the stadium, which has a capacity of almost 90,000 spectators. In total, there will be around 60,000 BVB fans in the city.
London BVB fans have rented the stadium of the fifth division Willesden Football Club near Wembley Stadium for two big fan parties on the final weekend. 600 fans came on Friday evening. On Saturday evening, Dortmund fans can celebrate there without tickets for the final. According to media reports, the public transport network in London is extremely busy at the weekend.
