Julian Weber wants to become European champion in javelin throwing again in Rome. He survives the qualification, but has to worry at first.
After a shaky start in the qualification, European javelin champion Julian Weber is once again in contention for a European Championship medal. The 29-year-old from Mainz clearly exceeded the required distance of 82.00 meters in Rome in his third and final attempt with 85.01 meters. This meant that Weber was actually number one in the end. His first two attempts were significantly shorter.
The final will take place this Wednesday (8:28 p.m./ZDF). At the European Athletics Championships two years ago in Munich, Weber achieved his greatest success to date with gold.
Also taking part in the final is javelin talent Max Dehning. The 19-year-old from Leverkusen threw 80.52 meters in the qualification and thus took twelfth and last place for the next round. Dehning caused a stir in February by breaking the 90-meter mark.
