Daniel Glaßer, who starts for WSV Sparkasse Bad Ischl, won the gold medal in the U19 Austrian biathlon championships in Hochfilzen (Tyrol). The student of the high-performance sports high school HIB Saalfelden won the super single competition over 7.5 kilometers with four shooting bouts. At the end of this still young discipline, 15 seconds of penalty time are added to the running time for each missed shot. With only one shooting error (standing), Glaßer laid an excellent basis for his victory, which he celebrated with a four-second lead over the runner-up. The young Ischler, whose goals for the season are to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games planned for this year as well as the World Youth Championships in the USA, is confidently going into the next competitions in Eisenerz next weekend with this success. Huang Jett (SV Bad Goisern) was eighth in the U22 age group.
The Nordic combined athletes and ski jumpers also fought for medals at the Austrian Championships in Villach. Nikolaus Mair from Ischl, who is one of the favorites, competed in the combination for the ASVÖ Nordic Team Salzkammergut. As the runner-up in jumping, he went into the 10-kilometer cross-country skiing a little more than half a minute behind the leader. His attack on the leader, who was ailing at the end of the third of four laps, came a little too late, Mair landed a little behind in second place and was able to look forward to the silver medal.
