The previous best time over 3000 meters was almost 28 years old. Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen is significantly faster than Daniel Komen. Pole vault star Armand Duplantis then goes one better.
Just 20 days after winning Olympic gold with a world record, pole vault star Armand Duplantis has again improved his personal best. The 24-year-old Swede cleared 6.26 meters in Chorzow, jumping one centimeter higher than on August 5 at the Stade de France near Paris.
After the successful second attempt, Duplantis, known only as “Mondo”, stormed the track at the Diamond League meeting in Poland and celebrated with colleagues and fans. It was the tenth world record in the career of the world and European champion and already his third this season.
Olympic silver medalist Sam Kendricks from the USA with 6.06 metres and Greek Emmanouil Karalis with 6.00 metres also crossed the prestigious six-metre mark in a high-class competition.
Norway’s running star Jakob Ingebrigtsen had previously clearly improved an ancient world record in athletics. The 5000-meter Olympic champion ran the non-Olympic 3000 meters in 7:17.55 minutes. This made the 23-year-old a good three seconds faster than Daniel Komen on September 1, 1996 in Rieti. The Kenyan ran 7:20.67 minutes at the time.
