Union Berlin’s social media team made a joke on the X platform about the collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden. But it backfired.
The PR team of Bundesliga football club 1. FC Union Berlin caused a stir on social media with an apparently joking comment about Dresden bridges. “Half an hour has passed. Defensively more stable than any Saxon bridge. Keep it up, guys!” wrote a club employee on the X platform during the first half of the match against RB Leipzig. In the end, the two teams drew 0-0.
Almost two hours later, the Berliners realized that the tone of the commentary regarding the collapse of Dresden’s Carola Bridge on Wednesday had been inappropriate. Union apologized to the people of Dresden and the city of Dresden, justifying the comment by saying that they had “got a bit carried away in the heat of the moment.”
Apology from Union Berlin
“They apologized. Sometimes things slip out. I’ve also said nonsense and one time someone didn’t have the best idea,” said Leipzig coach Marco Rose. From his point of view, the matter is now settled.
Early on Wednesday morning, part of the Carola Bridge, which crosses the Elbe, collapsed in Dresden. No one was injured. On Friday, another section collapsed during demolition work.
