Audience favorite Sinner made it to the semi-finals early in Turin
The big pressure for Jannik Sinner is off. Thanks to a competitor, the number one in the tennis world can already plan the end of the season for Saturday.
Italy’s tennis star Jannik Sinner is a semi-finalist before his final group game at the season finale of the ATP Tour. The 23-year-old world number one benefited from the outcome of the duel between the American Taylor Fritz and the Australian Alex de Minaur in Turin. Fritz won in three sets 5:7, 6:4, 6:3 and thus helped Sinner advance early.
US Open finalist Fritz still has to worry about his place in the top four and is dependent on Sinner’s performance. In the evening match (8.30 p.m./Sky) between the Italian world number one Sinner and Daniil Medvedev from Russia, the final placings in the group will be decided. The winless de Minaur alone has no chance of progressing.
Alexander Zverev leads the other group before the last preliminary round matchday on Friday. In a duel with the Spanish Wimbledon and French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz (2 p.m./Sky), the world number two wants to make his semi-finals perfect. Everything is still open in his group before the final match day. Zverev has the best starting position with two wins.
