When the sun shines over the snow -covered mountains in the clear winter sky and the powerful tubes of legendary classic cars can be heard, then it is “The Ice” in St. Moritz.
“The Ice” belongs to the absolute elite of the International Concours d’élégance and can easily keep up with the events in Pebble Beach or Villa d’Este. It was launched in 2022 by the former car brand manager Marco Makaus and has been taking place once a year in winter.
Also this year over 50 rare and legendary cars were presented – vehicles that you otherwise hardly see, but which for “The Ice” Exceptionally brought out of the garage by their owners and brought to St. Moritz. The exquisite selection ranged from iconic pre -war models to classic sports cars.
Divided into the five different categories “Barcettas on the Lake”,, “Open Wheels”,, “Concept cars & one offs”,, “Icons on Wheels” and “Racing Legends” The most beautiful vintage cars in the world were shown: incredible models such as a Ferrari 375 mm Spider from 1953, a Bugatti Type 57 g “tank” From 1936, a Lamborghini Miura SV from 1972 or an Aston Martin DB3s from 1955 – the crème de la crème of the automotive world.
Millions of classic cars go on ice on ice
While the extraordinary vehicles can be admired on the first day of the event on the frozen lake, the highlight follows on the second day: the multi -million dollar collectors follow the race in this beautiful backdrop.
But the guests of “The Ice”. Here you meet automobile connoisseurs, collectors, lovers from all over the world and jet sets-often with a champagne glass in your hand or accompanied by a dog that is also elegantly dressed.
And prominent personalities are also guests here, such as the Italian racing driver Arturo Merzario this year, who repeatedly posed for the photographers in front of his Abarth Sport. Or Pagani founder Horacio Pagani, who, in addition to his latest hypercars, also brought his Ferrari 275 GTB/4 from 1966 and drove on the ice with him.
But that “The Ice”-Spectacle does not only take place on the frozen lake. All of St. Moritz is on the days before, during and after the event in the automotive frenzy. Again and again you can see a special car in the streets of the Nobelskiort, around which a crowd of people immediately collects. Before the legendary luxury hotel “Badrutt’s Palace” Park a rare Bugatti Type 35, and vintage ferraris are invaluable in the public parking garages, while their owners and fans celebrate in one of the noble clubs and restaurants until late into the night.
