He was in prison for 231 days and has now been free for 128 days. What has tennis legend Boris Becker (55) done since his release from prison and how does he rearrange his life after his prison stay?

Interview about his hardest time

On December 20, 2022, five days after his release from prison, the private broadcaster Sat.1 showed the first interview with the fallen tennis hero. In a conversation with Steven Gätjen (50), he talked in detail about the situation in prison, about his fear of death, about being threatened by other prisoners. And how his girlfriend Lilian (32) gave him strength.

Documentary about his life

US director Alex Gibney (69) accompanied Becker for five years to make a film about his life. In February 2023, Gibney and Becker presented the documentary “Boom! Boom! – The World vs. Boris Becker” at the Berlinale. It has been available on Apple TV+ since April. The documentary outlines the rise and fall of the tennis legend. The archive recordings are flanked by numerous interviews. Including, of course, with Boris Becker himself and with numerous companions – such as his ex-wife Barbara Becker (56).

New, old job on TV

At the Australian Open in January 2023, about a month after his release from prison, Becker was again part of the game as an expert. Together with Matthias Stach (60), he commented and moderated the program named after him “Matchball Becker”. He is also on duty for the sports channel Eurosport during the French Open (May 28 to June 11) and the US Open (August 28 to September 11).

He has been with Lilian since 2020, and she was always at his side even during detention. Becker already called her “the love of my life”. He wants to stay with her “forever and ever”. In the Sat.1 interview, he even revealed that he would like to have more children: “I hope there will be more.” He recently moved from Germany to Milan with Lilian, who has Italian citizenship.

New professional projects

The former world-class tennis player has also been breaking new ground since his release from prison: At the beginning of May, for example, Boris Becker was invited as a speaker at the OMR festival of the digital industry in Hamburg and was there on stage to answer questions. There he spoke about his time in prison, his relationship with Lilian and his professional future (“There’s a lot in the pipeline, including on television.”). In addition, Becker is now advertising for an online supplier of windows. His slogan: “Don’t throw your money out the window.”
