During Taylor Swift’s concert in Zurich, the earth shook, in the truest sense of the word: the earthquake observatory measured vibrations at eight stations.
Taylor Swift and her fans caused the ground in Zurich to vibrate. During the concert at the Letzigrund Stadium, eight seismometers registered tremors up to six kilometers away yesterday evening, the Swiss Seismological Service reported. There were 50,000 people in the stadium.
“When many people move rhythmically at the same time, this energy is transferred into the ground as a harmonic vibration and can be measured by nearby seismometers,” says the earthquake service.
The strongest tremors were shortly after 7 p.m., when Taylor Swift took the stage. The Swifties welcomed their idol with jumping and dancing. Earthquakes have also been recorded at the musician’s previous concerts.
The phenomenon can also be observed with other bands, according to the earthquake service, as well as at football matches. “Whether Taylor Swift is more or less enthusiastic than other bands or a football match, which also cause measurable seismic tremors, cannot be reliably stated on the basis of the seismic data,” the earthquake service said.
Swift is currently in Europe with her “The Eras Tour”. From July 17th she will be in Germany for several concerts.
