The investigators estimate that the dealers made around 40,000 euros with the drug-laced sweets. But that wasn’t all: “To date, four suspects have been arrested and narcotics worth around two million euros have been seized,” said Mohamed Ibrahim, spokesman for the Federal Criminal Police Office (BK).

During several house searches in Vienna, the drug investigators discovered more than 178 kilograms of herbal cannabis, around 14 kilograms of cannabis powder, ten liters of cannabis oil and more than 10,000 pieces of confectionery containing cannabis oil. A large number of utensils for the production of the THC-containing products were also seized: The “gummy bear gang” had converted an apartment with a cannabis press, industrial air filter and centrifuges into a workshop for “hash biscuits” & Co.

According to the spokesman, the tools used to produce the drugs were worth almost 100,000 euros. The police put the street value of the seized cannabis at more than two million euros alone.

Four suspects in custody

Four suspects are in custody after the BK received information from the main customs office in Nuremberg and the customs investigation office in Munich about drug deliveries from Spain to Austria in November last year. The investigations that followed were carried out by the Office for Combating Narcotic Drugs, and the State Criminal Police Offices of Vorarlberg and Lower Austria, the Vienna Alarm Unit (WEGA) and the Rapid Intervention Group (SIG) of Lower Austria were also involved.

The main customs office in Nuremberg had informed that a shipment from Spain with almost two kilograms of cannabis herb had been intercepted, the addressee was in Vienna. A 44-year-old German was arrested there. “During the house search, more than 1,700 grams of herbal cannabis, almost 1,600 grams of THC-containing substances, electronic evidence and small amounts of other narcotic substances were seized,” said Ibrahim. Gradually, the investigators found other addresses involved in Lower Austria and Vorarlberg. Small amounts of drugs and cash were confiscated there.

A 47-year-old and a 42-year-old German were also arrested in Vienna. Recently, another suspect, a 30-year-old Austrian, clicked the handcuffs in Spain. The man was wanted across Europe and has already been extradited to Austria. A European arrest order still exists against a fifth suspected gang member, said the BK spokesman.
