Uruguay will host an international meeting on investment in renewable energy

The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini, assured that the country is prepared for the arrival of projects of this nature.

This Wednesday it was announced in the auditorium of the CAF – Development Bank of Latin America that Uruguay will host the first renewable energy investment forum organized by the International Renewable Energy Agency (irena). The event will take place on the days November 9 and 10being the first of its kind to be carried out in the region.

The minister of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), omar paganiniwas present, and affirmed that the country “seeks to play a leading role in the matter”, since it is prepared to be the destination of these investments, due to its trajectory in terms of transformation of the energy matrix.

The theme of the meeting will revolve around the impulses for investment in the energy transition, as well as being able to accelerate renewable energy projects and facilitate access to financing for the countries of Latin America.

For the head of the MIEM, this will be a good opportunity in terms of positioning the country internationally, seeking to attract businesses of this type, at the same time as being able to establish an area of ​​exchange where international actors and investors participate.

Paganini highlighted the decarbonization process that Uruguay has been passing through for several years, something that has currently allowed most of the country’s energy to be generated from renewable sources.

The minister also maintained that the second energy transition for which there is already a roadmap, which will be called upon to become a State policy beyond the future administrations that succeed the current government, to position the country as a producer of renewable energies of different formats.

In turn, he stressed that this energy trajectory is complemented by strong legal and political stability on the part of the country, which ensures “rules of the game” and compliance with State commitments beyond the governments of the day.
