The early bird catches the lunar eclipse – provided the covered sky allows this. Shortly before 5 a.m., the full moon, which appears to be copper red for a short time during a total lunar eclipse, will enter the partial shade of the earth. Due to the red color, this is also called “blood moon”.

In Upper Austria, however, the shadow play will only be recognizable when the celestial body immerses in the core shadow of the earth. This will be the case shortly after 6 a.m. According to experts, the moon will be completely penetrated around 7.26 a.m., then the total lunar eclipse takes place. However, since the moon over Austria will have already decreased, a partial lunar eclipse will be seen in this country.
A look into the sky between 5 a.m. and 6.30 a.m. could still be worthwhile – provided the fog, which is forecasts over Upper Austria, allows a few view windows.
