The Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez retained his World Council of Super Middleweight titles Boxing (WBC), World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) after beating British John Ryder by unanimous decision.

In the fight that marked his comeback in Mexico after 12 yearsÁlvarez edged out Ryder with a score of 120-107, 118-109 and 118-109.

Before more than 50,000 fans at the Akron stadium in Guadalajarawhere Álvarez is from, the 32-year-old boxer dominated the entire fight, landing several punches that left Ryder’s face streaked with blood.

In the fifth round, Álvarez sent Ryder to the canvas after hitting him in the face with a powerful right hand.

In the ninth round, Álvarez landed several punches on the British boxer who looked wobbly but didn’t go down.

In May of last year, Russian Dmitry Bivol retained the World Boxing Association light heavyweight world title after defeating Alvarez by unanimous decision in a fight that took place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With the victory against Ryder, Álvarez has a record of 59 wins with 39 knockouts, two draws and two losses.

For his part, Ryder, 34, remains with a record of 32 wins with 18 knockouts and six losses.
