When Zoom suddenly became popular in the corona pandemic, there was always trouble with troublemakers who burst into third-party video conferences.
US users went to court because of this, now Zoom wants to create their class action with a payment of up to 85 million dollars (around 71.5 million euros) from the world. The settlement with the plaintiffs still has to be approved by the responsible judge in California.
The deal with plaintiffs also provides for enhanced security measures by Zoom, according to court documents filed over the weekend. Last year, the service had already ensured, among other things, with the broader use of passcodes that it became more difficult to get into a third-party video conference with just a random zoom link. In these attacks, known as “zooming”, some of the participants were insulted by strangers.
Zoom was originally intended for use in companies. With working and learning from home during the Corona crisis, the service was suddenly also used by consumers, for example for family get-togethers and yoga classes. However, the safety precautions were not designed for such widespread use as Zoom admitted at the time.
