1.2 million euros were due for an application by the Ministry of Transport to provide information about accidents and diversions. The user feedback is devastating – the criticism from the Greens is harsh.
The federal government has spent around 1.2 million euros on the development of the Autobahn app, which has been available for three weeks.
The Federal Ministry of Transport announced in its answer to a parliamentary question submitted to the German Press Agency that the costs were “for the commissioning of external services”. The transport policy spokesman for the Green Group, Stefan Gelbhaar, spoke of a million dollar bankruptcy: “More than a million euros for an app without any added value – that’s a farce and therefore a case for the Court of Auditors.”
The new service app from the state-owned motorway company is intended to provide drivers with information on roadworks, diversions or accident sites via smartphones. In the week after it was published, it was downloaded around 180,000 times, according to the Ministry of Transport.
Due to the inadequate content and lack of navigation functions, it gets an extremely poor user rating in the Google Play Store with an average of 2.2 out of 5 points.
