Tracking down the spread of hatred and agitation online is often not that easy. The Baden-Württemberg Interior Minister Strobl wants to make providers such as Facebook responsible.
The chairman of the conference of interior ministers, Thomas Strobl (CDU), wants to oblige providers such as Facebook, in the fight against hatred and agitation on the Internet, to release data to identify a user under certain circumstances.
In a guest article for the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (Thursday), the Interior Minister of Baden-Württemberg wrote that there were still “barriers that make it impossible for us to determine who is communicating under a pseudonym or an e-mail address”.
The CDU Federal Vice-President demands: “That too has to change, for example by obliging certain providers to collect and verify identification features and to make them available in the event of judicial approval.”
Strobl also sees the political class itself as having an obligation to treat one another with more respect. He writes: «For years we have seen political discourse becoming brutalized, some of which no longer meet the standards of civilized behavior. Because it is easy to turn words into deeds, we must all pay attention to our language. ”
