Putin’s Russia does not necessarily stand for climate protection and ecological building. But of course these trends have long since reached Russia as well. BIO Architects from Moscow specialize in ecological and biological buildings. The bridge house is also something special for them: it spans a river and actually also serves as a bridge.
Ivan Ovchinnikov, founder of BIO Architects, writes about the uniqueness of the house. “Our customer’s property is bisected by the river. There was already a house on one side, and the customer wanted to build a second house on the other side of the river. But nobody recognized the river as a place for a house.”
Ovchinnikov, on the other hand, immediately saw the charm of the location over the river and the possibilities that a house offered. The building is particularly elegant because it rests on just one beam. Ovchinnikov has worked with wood for many years, so he proposed a structure made of wood that is anchored to each river bank but does not require pillars. “To my surprise, the customer said yes.” The clear, simple form of the function of the building fits perfectly into the natural surroundings of the old farm. The bridge house houses a living room, a kitchen and two rooms on an area of around 150 square meters – there are additional bunks in the roof. The facade consists of large panes of glass that let in plenty of light and naturally ventilate the house in summer. Air conditioning is not required and the heating only works on extremely cold days. The house does not have to be heated up to minus 15 degrees. The house is located in the Tula district, about 200 kilometers from Moscow. The building was prefabricated in the region and then delivered to the construction site and assembled there.
