According to a recent report, Germany is making progress in terms of digitization. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement, as the Statista infographic shows.
Germany ranks ninth in the Digital Quality of Life Index 2021 and can thus improve by seven places compared to the previous year. Above all, the good quality of the mobile Internet, the affordability of an Internet connection and a strong infrastructure for artificial intelligence put Germany in the top 10 this year. Broadband speed (82nd place) and stability (59th place) are less convincing in this country. Overall, Germany still has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to digitization compared to other European nations.
Denmark once again scores best in the ranking created by Surfshark. Our neighbor in the north is the only country to achieve an index value of more than 0.8. The top ranks are completed by South Korea and Finland. Korea is characterized by its outstanding internet quality – here the Asian country takes first place. Finland’s strength lies in infrastructure and e-governance services.
The Surfshark Digital Quality of Life Index measures the quality of digital life in 110 different countries around the world, taking into account factors such as internet quality and affordability as well as digital infrastructure, security and administration. The factors are related to economic indicators such as GDP, average salary and prices for mobile and broadband internet. The calculated value is between 0 and 1 – the fact that no country can have a value above 0.9 shows that there is still room for improvement in the most developed countries.
