After downloading the app, users have to register once. Personal information on previous illnesses can already be entered in a profile. If the emergency call is selected, the app automatically detects the location of the cell phone and transmits this to the control center with one click. The app then guides the user through several questions that are intended to help assess the danger situation: Should the police or the fire brigade be alerted? Are people hurt? Is it a break-in or a fire? If all questions have been answered, the emergency call is made.
Reul: More security
“We are offering people something like a lot more security and, above all, self-determination,” said Reul. First and foremost, the offer is aimed at all people who have difficulty communicating on the phone due to a hearing or speech impairment. But the app is also useful for people who cannot speak German or who cannot speak in an emergency. “In principle,” nora “is an app for everyone in Germany.”
The North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior was in charge of the nationwide project. The emergency call app has been available in almost all federal states since Tuesday.
