Usually, Netflix keeps viewership numbers top secret. But now the head of the streaming service reveals the most successful series. And also what is currently on the rise.
The historical series “Bridgerton” and the films “Bird Box – Shut Your Eyes” and “Tyler Rake: Extraction” are among the greatest successes of the streaming service Netflix to date.
Around 82 million Netflix profiles “Bridgerton” clicked in the first 28 days after publication and watched for at least two minutes – more than any other series on the streaming platform, said Netflix boss Ted Sarandos US media reports at a conference in Los Angeles – and thus gave a rare glimpse into the otherwise top secret Netflix viewership.
“Bridgerton” was also ahead in terms of the total time that viewers spent with the series in the first 28 days after its release. The squares also include “Tiger King”, “Emily in Paris” and “Stranger Things”.
For the films, “Bird Box – Shut Your Eyes” and “Tyler Rake: Extraction” landed in the first two places in both categories. “We’re trying to be more transparent with the artists and the market,” said Sarandos. So far, the data are “largely a large black box”.
The South Korean drama series “Squid Game” is currently on the rise, Sarandos said. “We didn’t see this global popularity coming.”
