The “nora” app is designed to help the hearing impaired in need. After the emergency numbers 110 and 112 were temporarily canceled on Wednesday, the rush for the app was great – and the servers at their limit.
Due to the very high number of hits, the download of the nationwide emergency call app «nora» has been suspended until further notice.
Due to the failure of the emergency numbers 110 and 112 on Wednesday, the rush to the app has increased more than tenfold, reported the lead Ministry of the Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia. The servers have come to the load limit. The app remains functional and usable for all already registered users.
For the main target group of «nora», people with speech and hearing impairments, the Ministry of the Interior has created an alternative way of downloading and registering the app. People with speech and hearing impairments can register at “www.nora-notruf.de/hilfe” and request their access to the app.
The emergency call app was launched on Tuesday in all federal states with the exception of Berlin. Up to now, hearing-impaired people had to resort to sign interpreters, friends or faxes in emergencies.
After downloading the app, users have to register once. Personal information on previous illnesses can already be entered in a profile. If the emergency call is selected, the app automatically detects the location of the cell phone and transmits this to the control center with one click.
The app then guides the user through several questions that are intended to help assess the risk situation. If all questions have been answered, the emergency call is made. The North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior was in charge of the nationwide project.
