The trend is rising: According to the diversity report of the state media authorities, more and more people are romping about services such as Google or Facebook to consume information.
Internet platforms such as search engines are playing an increasingly important role in Germany when it comes to consuming information and forming opinions.
This is the assessment of the diversity report by the state media authorities, which was published on Tuesday at the Munich Media Days industry meeting. It has now appeared for the fifth time.
According to this, around 33 million people over the age of 14 obtain information on an average day by not only using the services of Google and Facebook as contact manufacturers, but also perceiving information directly on the services. That corresponds to around 46 percent of the population. The media regulators base their report on study results.
The daily reach for information from platforms, which are also called media intermediaries in the media industry, rose from 32.1 percent in 2019 to 45 percent in 2020. The media regulators also see an increase in the first half of 2021.
