Instagram has introduced several new features aimed at keeping teenagers safe online. This was announced on November 24 by the head of the social network Adam Mosseri on his page in Twitter.
“We at Instagram have been working for a long time to ensure that young people are safe when using the application. As part of this work, we are announcing some new tools and features that will help our young users be safer, ”he wrote in his post, clarifying that some options are planned to be launched next year.
So, thanks to the new features, parents and guardians will not only be able to see how much time children spend in the application, but will also be able to set time limits on their own. In addition, the Take A Break feature will be launched for social media users in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, which the company announced back in November.
Among other things, teens will be able to notify their parents when they want to complain about someone, giving their families the opportunity to contact these users. Also in publications it will be prohibited to mark or mention minors who are not subscribed to the author.
“We will start nudging teenagers on different topics if they linger on one topic for a while,” Mosseri said.
The head of Instagram added that the company is currently developing a new education center for parents and guardians, which will include additional resources such as product guides and expert advice to help them build dialogue with their kids about using social media.
Earlier, on November 10, Adam Mosseri announced that Instagram began testing a new tool to remind users to take a break from watching the feed. The feature, called Take a break, will allow you to receive a reminder from within the application to take a break after a user-selected amount of time.
On November 9, Instagram began testing the paid subscription feature for popular bloggers. Users will pay a small, recurring fee to access their Stories and publications.
