Scientists talk about the benefits of jogging for the brain

Scientists at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, conducted a study and concluded that physical activity has a positive effect on a person’s mental performance and mood. The research results were published in Scientific Reports.

In particular, in their study, experts found that running has a good effect on the functioning of the brain. Even a 10-minute run leads to a significant increase in local blood flow in various areas of the prefrontal cortex – the area responsible for communication, achievement of goals, speed of decision-making, self-control and a number of other cognitive functions.

Also, physical activity has a good effect on mood. Scientists studied the condition of 26 healthy men and women who were not involved in jogging, says Reedus. All participants in the experiment were divided into two groups. The first one participated in ten-minute jogging, the second group was the control one, writes Life.Ru.

After that, the subjects came to the Stroop test, which includes an assessment of infrared spectroscopy, as well as tasks for matching different words and colors, notes the TV channel “360”. Experts measured the mood of the volunteers using a two-dimensional scale and found that all participants in the study improved their mood after training, writes Pravda.Ru.

Earlier in December, Science Advances reported that American scientists from Cornell University College of Medicine had conducted research into why the brain consumes so much energy. Experts believe that this is due to the synaptic vesicles carrying neurotransmitters. The transporter proteins in their membranes have a very low activation threshold and can start working even when they are not needed.
