Roskomnadzor has blocked access to the Tor project website in Russia by a court order due to information about the means of access to prohibited content. This was reported on December 8 by the department.
“On the basis of a court decision, the resource https://www.torproject.org is included in the unified register of prohibited information. The reason was the posting on the specified site of information that ensures the operation of means that provide access to illegal content. To date, access to the resource is limited, ”the RKN press service told Interfax.
In the register of information prohibited in the Russian Federation, they referred to the decision of the Saratov District Court of 2017 as the basis for blocking.
On December 7, the Tor developers in their blog reported that they had received a notification from the RKN about the need to remove information prohibited in the Russian Federation, otherwise the site will be blocked. The developers noted that Russia is the second country in the world in terms of the number of Tor users, the browser is used by more than 300 thousand Russians make up 15% of all users.
Earlier, on November 25, Roskomnadzor brought the social network VKontakte to administrative responsibility for failing to delete prohibited information. The press service of VKontakte, for their part, said that the company is constantly fighting fakes.
Tor is software that allows you to establish a secure anonymous network connection. The Tor browser does not allow you to track the user’s connection and find out which sites he visits. Cookies and browsing history are automatically deleted.
