Scientists of the Baltic Federal University named after I. Kant presented an updated version of the Balalaika hardware and software complex at the Vuzpromexpro exhibition in Sochi. Now, with the help of the program, you can control computer applications using gestures and thoughts. This was announced on Thursday, December 9, to Izvestia in the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
Using the example of the computer game Doom, the developers demonstrated how the complex can be used to control a character without using traditional keyboard and mouse.
The software is based on artificial intelligence technology, which provides intuitive and reliable operation. At the same time, the authors of the invention took care of the convenience of the neurodevice – its compactness and portability make the interface optimal for solving various applied problems.
According to the vice-rector for scientific work of the IKBFU. I. Kant Maxim Demin, the device can be used for the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients, helping to restore their motor and cognitive functions using biofeedback techniques.
“Balalaika can also be used in e-sports to improve the results of athletes through the use of information channels that are inaccessible to conventional interfaces, for example, for direct reading of a person’s mental intentions for action,” he said.
IKBFU I. Kant is a participant of the federal program “Priority 2030”. It is being held within the framework of the Science and Universities national project and the Human Resources for the Digital Economy federal project of the Digital Economy of the Russian Federation national program.
In June, it became known that Russian scientists were engaged in the creation of smart clothes and shoes NeuroScan, which can monitor the health of its owner. Clothes and shoes will be able to track health indicators and store them in the cloud space. For example, smart clothes can help pay attention to the body’s respiratory system and recommend more thorough examination by a doctor.
