Proton-M launch was postponed due to problems in the Briz-M block

The launch of the Proton-M carrier rocket was postponed due to the remarks identified in the Briz-M upper stage. On December 9, the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin wrote about this in Telegram.

“One more remark was revealed on the upper stage. We will not risk it, the technical management decided to calmly modify the missile system in the assembly and test building. We will leave with the launch on a backup date, which we will inform you about additionally, ”he said.

The rocket is to put into orbit the telecommunication satellites Express-AMU3 and Express-AMU7.

On November 18, it was reported that the launch of the Proton-M rocket from the Baikonur cosmodrome was postponed from December 6 to 12 due to the need to refine the upper stage. Earlier, on September 23, it became known that the satellite launch scheduled for November 8 was postponed to December 6.

The satellites are planned to be placed in a geostationary orbit – a circular orbit with an altitude of 36 thousand km – at positions 103 and 145 degrees east longitude, respectively. They must provide high-quality communications and television and radio broadcasting services for consumers in Russia and foreign countries.

“Express-AMU3” and “Express-AMU7” are manufactured by the Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems company in the interests of the “Space Communications” enterprise (RSCC).

Now the RSCC orbital constellation consists of 12 Express telecommunication satellites. It is expected to include 14 more satellites by 2030.
