On December 10, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Sergeev announced that the beginning of the active work of the renewed Russian society “Knowledge” became one of the main events of the Year of Science and Technology announced in the country.

It is very important to convey scientific information to young people, first of all, to society, which is now very scrupulous, it is accustomed to new methods of obtaining this information. [Донесение] scientific information in a new way, interesting, exciting – this is a great event, ”he said at the Congress of Young Scientists.
Sergeev also noted that scientists are not always good storytellers. In his opinion, some “great scientists” do not possess the art of oratory, therefore “there is no need to force them.”
The President of the Russian Academy of Sciences called the creation of the National Center for Physics and Mathematics in Sarov the second important event of the year.
On May 12, new leaders of the Knowledge Society were approved.
So, the chairman of the supervisory board was the first deputy head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation Sergey Kiriyenko, his deputies were appointed aides to the president of Russia Vladimir Medinsky, Maxim Oreshkin, Andrey Fursenko, as well as Lyubov Dukhanina.
Maxim Dreval, the founder of the Netology Group holding, was chosen as the General Director of Znanie.
In March, Dreval proposed to establish a modern knowledge platform containing the experience and traditions of the USSR. During the announcement of the message to the Federal Assembly in April, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative to restart society on a digital platform.
From 20 to 22 May, the New Knowledge marathon was held in Russia. The forum program included over 100 discussions, lectures, open lessons and master classes. The marathon is intended to become a modern knowledge platform, which, based on the educational experience and traditions of the Soviet Union, will act as a starting point for new formats of society’s work.
The Russian society “Knowledge” is a public non-profit organization that has been operating since 2016.
