The Year of Science in Russia has clearly demonstrated that the country is ready for a scientific and technological breakthrough. This was announced on Friday, December 10, by the president of the national research center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk.
“The Year of Science, launched by the decision of the President [России Владимира Путина], from my point of view, he very clearly demonstrated that our country is ready for a scientific and technological breakthrough, and this year has now done the following: he had to dramatically raise the role of science and the role of a scientist in the eyes of public opinion of all people, “he said on plenary session of the congress of young scientists.
Kovalchuk also stressed that over 20 years in Russia, thanks to the efforts of the president, there have been very big changes.
Speaking about the meaning of the Year of Science, he noted that the work of a scientist requires self-denial and almost round-the-clock work. According to Kovalchuk, this is a difficult and not very well-paid business, therefore it is the lot of creative people who have “a certain inner impulse, urge, desire above any other challenge.”
“Mind and intellect should be a subject for imitation, and it seems to me that this is a key result of our Year of Science,” he concluded.
Earlier, on December 8, the President of Russia called for an increase in the volume of mega-grants allocated for scientific research. In his opinion, if the authorities want to attract researchers of the highest level, then the volume of the mega-grant must be increased. In addition, it is necessary to do so that the development of this work is noticeable.
In December 2020, the head of state signed a decree on holding the Year of Science and Technology in the country in 2021. Putin also instructed the government to develop and approve a basic plan of events for the Year of Science and Technology.
