The coronavirus pandemic has changed the paradigm of scientific and technological development. New conditions are changing the landscape of science, so there is a need for a fundamentally different class of scientists. This was announced on December 14 by the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko at the virtual summit QS Subject Focus Summit Medicine 2021.
“Science needs a new class of scientists, they can be called T-shaped specialists. They have a major focus in one industry, such as genetics, and additional competencies in another end-to-end technology, such as digitalization. That together creates a new class of scientists who are capable of making a breakthrough, ”he said.
According to the minister, from the very first days of teaching medicine, it is important for each student to see his own “educational track”, and the ministry, as a regulator, should ensure the inclusion of end-to-end technologies in educational programs.
Earlier, on December 10, the president of the national research center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk said that over 20 years in Russia there have been very big changes in the field of science. He also stressed that the work of a scientist requires self-denial and complete dedication. According to Kovalchuk, this is a difficult and not very well-paid business, therefore it is the lot of creative people who have “a certain inner impulse, urge, desire above any other challenge.”
A large-scale vaccination campaign is underway in Russia. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVak.
