With the help of the Pegasus software, journalists, human rights activists and opposition activists are said to have been spied on on a large scale. The web service provider Amazon is now closing the accounts of the manufacturer NSO.
After allegations of spying on members of the opposition and journalists with the help of Pegasus, the web service provider Amazon blocked the accounts of the Israeli software manufacturer NSO.
“When we heard about these activities, we acted quickly to shut down the relevant infrastructure and accounts,” said a spokesman for cloud service provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Tuesday. This was done in accordance with the terms of use, which exclude hacking activities.
According to a report by the human rights organization Amnesty International, NSO had recently used the cloud services of the large provider AWS for the software. An international journalist consortium published new allegations against the Israeli company NSO on Sunday. According to this, traces of attacks with the Pegasus software are said to have been found on smartphones by numerous journalists, human rights activists and opposition activists.
NSO denied the allegations on Sunday. Pegasus is “sold exclusively to law enforcement agencies and secret services of verified governments, with the sole aim of saving human lives by preventing crimes and acts of terrorism,” it said – as it was after similar allegations.
