Online video hosting YouTube has blocked the account of the German-language TV channel RT Deutsch. This was reported on Thursday, December 16, in the RT Telegram channel.
“YouTube has blocked the new RT DE channel – RT auf Sendung. This happened on the day of the launch of the German-language television broadcast. The channel was broadcasting live, ”the message says.
RT DE was removed from YouTube in September for violating the terms of use, RT said. If the channel is deleted, the channel owner cannot use, own or create any other YouTube channels. It is noted that the RT auf Sendung channel was also removed for violating YouTube’s terms of use, namely for circumventing previously imposed restrictions.
Commenting on the blocking of the channel, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova wrote in her Telegram that “we did not expect anything else.” According to her, everyone “congratulates on the premiere” as best he can – good wishes or “crushed glass poured into shoes.”
On September 28, RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan announced the removal of two German-language RT channels from YouTube. Video hosting explained the removal by a violation of the terms of use of the platform in connection with the publication of content related to the coronavirus pandemic. Simonyan called the voiced reasons far-fetched.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called the YouTube administration’s decision “unprecedented information aggression.” The department also noted the need for a symmetrical response to the German media. On September 29, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that there are signs that YouTube has grossly violated Russian laws.
On October 4, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert announced that the German authorities were not involved in blocking the German-language RT channels on YouTube. There is no censorship in Germany, he added.
Also in October, RT DE and Ruptly filed a petition in court for a temporary ban against YouTube blocking and strikes. According to the head of TV channels Dinara Toktosunova, at first a pre-trial letter was sent to the American corporation Google, which owns YouTube. There was no answer to it. Then the lawyers went to court.
