The year of science and technology should continue with a whole scientific decade. This was announced on Friday, December 24, by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I think it will be right if the Year of Science and Technology marks the beginning of a whole scientific decade in Russia, which will serve as a stimulus for the further development of education,” the head of state said at a joint meeting of the State Council and the Council for Science and Education.
Putin expressed the opinion that “this decision will be supported by all political and social forces.” He also counts on “the interested participation of the regions in this work.” The head of state asked them to help create centers for scientific volunteering, including on the basis of universities. In addition, he instructed the regions to assist in the development of popular scientific tourist routes.
The Russian leader explained that the matter concerns the participation of students and schoolchildren in expeditions, in conducting excursions to Megascience class installations, to research centers, to the Vostochny cosmodrome.
Putin concluded that “the main, key result of the Year of Science and Technology is a qualitatively new level of scientific enlightenment.” According to him, the public interest in science is “without exaggeration, huge, colossal.”
Earlier, in April, the head of state announced the importance of developing science in the country. Putin noted that 1 trillion 630 billion rubles will be allocated for civil and fundamental research until 2024.
