Most hangover remedies are mostly useless. Scientists from University College London came to this conclusion based on the analysis of numerous studies. They published their work in Addiction magazine.
Experts analyzed 21 placebo-controlled studies devoted to different drugs: from tincture of eleutherococcus to vitamins and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and the authors had doubts about the quality of the methodologies of the work. It is noted that even within the framework of one study, the type of alcohol and the conditions for its use varied significantly.
“Given the ongoing speculation in the media about which hangover remedies work and which don’t, the question of the effectiveness of the drugs claimed to help fight hangovers is very interesting to the public,” said lead author Emmert Roberts. …
The scientist emphasized that the current work of his team has shown that data on hangover cures are unlikely to be correct, and more rigorous methods, such as standardized scales for assessing hangover symptoms, are needed in further research. Now, he said, the surest way to prevent a hangover is to “abstain from alcohol or drink in moderation,” he concluded.
Earlier, on December 18, Elena Evdokimova, endocrinologist, nutritionist, nutritionist of JSC “Medicine” (Academician Roitberg’s clinic), member of the Russian Association of Endocrinologists, member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), told Izvestia why some people experience a hangover after a party , and some do not experience any unpleasant symptoms. According to the specialist, the reaction to alcohol is related to how the body breaks down and removes it from the body.
Previously, experts recommended eliminating the hangover syndrome with tea or coffee, since it is these drinks that relieve the feeling of fatigue. It is also recommended to take vitamin C. For example, eat kiwi, oranges, strawberries, lemon.
