Russian cosmonauts will go into outer space on January 19

Russian crew members of the 66th long-term expedition to the International Space Station (ISS) Anton Shkaplerov and Petr Dubrov are preparing for the 51st planned spacewalk, scheduled for January 19. This is stated on January 2 in a message on the Roscosmos website.

The opening of the exit hatch of the Search module is scheduled for 15:00 Moscow time. The main task of the work will be the integration of the Prichal nodal module, which arrived on the ISS at the end of November 2021, into the Russian segment of the station.

“The Russian spacewalk will be performed in Orlan-ISS # 4 and 5 spacesuits. Anton Shkaplerov has command equipment with red stripes (Orlan-ISS # 5 spacesuit), and Pyotr Dubrov has blue stripes along the spacesuit ( “Orlan-MKS” No. 4) “, – noted in the state corporation.

In the course of the work, the cosmonauts, in particular, will install handrails between the modules “Nauka” and “Prichal”, dismantle the covers of the screen-vacuum thermal insulation from the handrails.

On the eve it became known that the correction of the ISS orbit altitude is scheduled for January 12, the maneuver will be the first in 2022. The orbital altitude will increase by 850 m.
