MSLU professor spoke about the dangers of gadgets for children

The uncontrolled use of gadgets by children reduces the degree of their abstract thinking. Vera Pishchalnikova, a linguist, Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of General and Comparative Linguistics of the Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU), spoke about this on Wednesday, January 5.

“The most important danger (of the use of gadgets) is the degradation of the thinking proper, which humanity“ earned ”in the process of long evolution. Under the influence of culture and technologies that outwardly make life easier for a person, serious changes take place in our neurophysiological processes, which are not noticeable to the “user”, but the researchers note them very clearly, “Pishchalnikova noted to TASS.

Pishchalnikova added that technology affects the perception and understanding of the world, and also begins to “restrain the evolution of the brain.” Instead of reaching everything with their minds, people get by with their brains, the MSLU processor added.

“The network does everything so that the child does not have any“ own mind ”. We constantly say that information is qualitatively becoming more complex and growing quantitatively. And the brain in the human population is beginning to simplify, because there are no radical conditions that would force it to adapt to the nature of the information, ”the specialist concluded.

Earlier, on November 19, a neuroscientist, head of the psychiatry department at the University of Ulm, a freelance expert at the Verba Mayr clinic, Manfred Spitzer, said that the frequent use of electronic devices can lead to digital dementia. The specialist emphasized that such devices are especially dangerous for children and adolescents. Gadgets interfere with the educational process, Spitzer said.

To reduce the risk of digital dementia, parents should monitor the time their children spend on the Internet. The neuroscientist also recommends that adults arrange the so-called digital detox, refusing to use gadgets for a certain period, which will help restore brain function.
